Badcock closing after 90-day closeout sale

ASHEBORO— After nearly two decades in Asheboro, Badcock Home Furniture & More will close.

The store at 837 East Dixie Drive was one of 35 Badcock stores in the Southeast to close, seven in North Carolina. The closures are the result of Chapter 11 bankruptcy filed July 23 by the combined Badcock Home Furniture & More and Conn’s HomePlus, according to an article in Furniture Today.

Conn’s bought Badcock in December from Franchise Group, resulting in a combined 553 showrooms. The Furniture Today story said 106 of those stores would close, or about 19 percent of the group’s showrooms.

Local Badcock employees learned of the coming closure on July 25 and were told the inventory would be sold during a 90-day closeout sale. The store has been at that location for nearly 20 years. Previously, the building was home to Winn-Dixie supermarket.

Badcock was founded in 1904 in Mulberry, Fla., by Henry Stanhope Badcock. Expansion through 120 years continued throughout the Southeast.

The good news for consumers is that the existing inventory at the local store will be offered at reduced prices. Products include home furniture, appliances, electronics, office furnishings, accessories and seasonal items.

All sales are final and no returns or exchanges will be permitted.
