Randy’s owner hopes to ‘follow the Dixie III legacy’

ASHEBORO — Everyone who has missed Dixie III Restaurant can rest easy now. Randy’s will be coming soon to “follow the Dixie III legacy.”

Randy Kennedy of Lexington has been in the restaurant business for 27 years, running one popular eatery on US 64 east near I-85 while his brother manages another. Kennedy will bring his expertise to the former Dixie III site at 715 E. Dixie Drive, Asheboro, with hopes of opening in December.

He’ll be leasing the building from Mark Davidson, who ran Dixie III for nearly 40 years before retiring. Plans are to do some upgrades and “spruce the place up, with Mark’s blessing,” Kennedy said.

Randy’s Restaurant will offer homestyle cooking much like Dixie III with choices such as barbecue, steaks, seafood and other entrees. There will also be a host of vegetables and other side orders.

Kennedy said the new restaurant’s menu will be much like Randy’s of Lexington, which can be found on the website, https://randysrestaurant.shop. That should include daily specials and desserts.

“We hope it will look good and have the same positive vibes (as Dixie III),” Kennedy said.

“We’re family people. We want it to be a place where Asheboro can frequent. We want to establish the same thing in Asheboro (as the Lexington location) with a family atmosphere and a positive feel.”

Kennedy said the hours of operation are, tentatively, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. six or seven days per week. Job postings will begin soon for 40-50 servers and some 25 kitchen staff.

Rather than a drive-thru, Kennedy plans to have a pickup window for call-in orders so takeout customers don’t have to wait in line.

After months of being vacant, the old Dixie III building will soon see new life. The process was overseen by HR Gallimore of RE/MAXX Central Realty.

“I have had positive feedback,” Kennedy said. “We’re excited.”
