Three new businesses coming to Randleman

RANDLEMAN — Randleman’s citizens can look forward to new retail opportunities in 2024 in the fast food, automotive and farm/garden sectors.

Shain Sexton, Randleman interim city manager, and Elizabeth Sechriest, Randleman finance director, confirmed in an interview that:

— Cook Out is expected to open this year in the former CommunityOne bank building at 685 W. Academy St. 

— Tractor Supply — which bills itself as “the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the U.S” — plans to construct a location just off of U.S. 311 beyond The Timken plant in Randleman, city officials said. 

— Mavis Discount Tire is building out its newest location on South Main Street across the parking lot from Compadres Restaurant.

Firm dates for the opening of these locations are not available at this time.

Cook Out

Cook Out is currently headquartered in Thomasville but started in Greensboro on Randleman Road in 1989. From that humble beginning, the company has grown to more than 300 stores in 10 states.

Cook Out began with a drive-thru and walk-up format. However, Randleman city officials said the new location on West Academy Street will offer indoor and outdoor sit-down options. Renovations to the former bank building have been ongoing since December 2023.

Cook Out is known for its made-to-order menu featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken and barbecue sandwiches. It is also known for its milkshake menu that frequently offers changing seasonal flavors.

Tractor Supply

Tractor Supply Company owns and operates more than 2,200 stores in 49 states supplying basic maintenance products to home, land, pet and animal owners.

Based in Brentwood, Tenn., the company has a presence in Asheboro on Dixie Drive and in Greensboro on South Elm-Eugene Street. In August 2023, Tractor Supply opened a location in Denton on NC 109.

The exact address of the Randleman site is not available at this time, according to Sexton. It is expected to be somewhere between Randleman and Sophia on U.S. 311. However, Randleman officials said the city would be able to supply water and sewer to the retail site.

According to information on the company website, capital plans for 2024 include opening a total of approximately 80 Tractor Supply stores around the country, including numerous remodels and garden center transformations, completion of its 10 distribution center and opening a total of 10-15 new Petsense by Tractor Supply stores. 

Mavis Discount Tire

Sechriest confirmed Mavis Discount Tire is responsible for the grading work under way near Food Lion grocery store on South Main Street. The company is based in Millwood, NY, and has 830 locations in 24 states across the East Coast, South and Midwest, according to the corporate website. 

Mavis Discount Tire is an independent multi-brand tire dealer. The company offers tires, as well as other services including brakes, alignments, suspension, shocks, struts, oil changes, battery replacement and exhaust work.

Efforts to get projected opening dates or more information from the companies listed above about possible job openings were not successful.
