ASHEBORO — Recent temperatures in the 90s is a reason to let you know when Asheboro’s local swimming pools are open.
The pool season runs from Memorial Day weekend through the middle of August in Asheboro. Different activities that include Group and Private Swim Lessons are available.
Open swim, too, of course.
The city runs two local pools:

Memorial Pool, technically at 321
Lanier Ave. but on the corner of Lanier and Church Street. Memorial Pool came about in 1947 when the Asheboro Memorial Foundation built the pool. The park as a whole was built to serve Asheboro and Randolph County with a facility for healthful recreation because no other swimming pools existed in the county. The Asheboro Memorial Foundation eventually turned the operation of the park over to the City of Asheboro.

Monday – Closed to the Public. Tuesday – Closed to the Public.
Wednesday-Friday – 1-6 p.m. Public Open Swim.
Saturday – 12-6 p.m. Public Open Swim.
Sunday – 1-6 p.m. Public Open Swim.

North Asheboro Pool at 1939 Canoy
Ave. was built in 1980. The park as a whole was built to provide additional recreational opportunities for the citizens of the City of Asheboro and surrounding communities. The park includes the swimming pool, playground, tennis courts, picnic shelter, baseball field and passive areas. In 2002, a double slide was added to the pool to attract more patrons. A disc golf course also exists in the woods beside the pool.

Monday – 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Water Aerobics; 1-6 p.m. Public Open Swim.
Tuesday – 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Water Aerobics; 1-6 p.m. Public Open Swim.
Wednesday – Closed to the Public
Thursday – 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Water Aerobics; 1-6 p.m. Public Open Swim; 7 p.m. to dark Public Night Swim
Friday – 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Water Aerobics; 1-6 p.m. Public Open Swim.
Saturday – 12-6 p.m. Public Open Swim.
Fees for both pools are as follows, according the city’s website:
■ Public Day Swim: $3 for age 3 and older; free for 2 and under.
■ Public Evening Swim: $2 for 3-older, free for 2-under.
■ Lap/Adult Swim: $2.
■ Pool Pass (15 visits):
— with a city Rec Card, $30.
— without Rec card, $40.
