Neighbors helping neighbors

ASHEBORO — The purpose of the Neighbors Help-ing Neighbors have a “Brighter Christmas” is to make the community aware of special needs that are usually not addressed by existing service agencies.

Here are the first cases approved for help this holiday season:

446 — An Asheboro man needs an electric lift chair.

443 — An Asheboro woman needs car repair —a catalytic converter and a radiator.

441 — A Franklinville woman needs repairs for weak floor boards and some rotten boards on the deck and stairs on a mobile home.

404 — A Climax woman needs to her deck.

445 — An Asheboro woman needs a handicap ramp.

NHN is directed by a committee of service profession-als. These volunteers represent many organizations, including Randolph Hub, Randolph County Senior Adults Association, Randolph County Habitat for Humanity, Randolph County Veterans Council, Christians United Outreach Center and community members.

To apply for help

The average NHN request is $250-$500. Do not submit NHN requests for rent, utilities or things where programs are already in place to meet those needs.

1. Go to www.mycuoc.org, click on the Neighbors Helping Neighbors link, print the application and com-plete or send a letter stating the info needed.

2. For a mailed application, call 336-625-1500 x 222 and leave your name and address. One will be mailed to you. The committee will review each request and determine which member is most appropriate to be assigned as the lead person. The committee will meet each week to review the progress of each request and its findings.

Randolph Hub will publish stories based on applicant letters to show potential donors what special needs exist. Applicants will be informed in writing of the committee’s recommendations as soon as possible
