RECHS Betas rack up awards ... again

ASHEBORO — Over the past few months, National Beta members from Randolph Early College High School worked diligently to prepare for National Beta Convention where they competed in 52 areas, including academic tests, visual arts and team competitions.

During the completion held on June 16-19, they were announced as winners in 32 areas at the 44th annual National Beta Convention at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center in Savannah, GA. Twenty of the 32 were Top 5 placements with five of those being first place National Champions.

For the third year in a row, RECHS was the most awarded club at the national level.

RECHS Beta Club members received a state-high 50 awards during their State Convention at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro in January. Their victories at the state level qualified them to compete at the national level.

At this year’s National Convention, 6,100 Senior Betas (grades 9-12) were in attendance, representing more than 360 schools from 18 states.

In addition to competing in conventions, RECHS Betas can be seen doing good work throughout the community. This past school year, RECHS Betas completed 4,500 hours of community service.

RECHS Betas are looking for new service opportunities and for sponsors to help fund state and national convention competitions.

Twenty-two RECHS Betas earned the President’s Volunteer Service Award this past school year. The PVSA is a civil award bestowed by the President of the United States. Students were able to earn this award by completing a certain amount of community service based on their age. Seven earned gold, two earned silver and 13 earned bronze.

Sponsors are Lauren Wood, chemistry teacher, Philip Schuyler, earth and environmental science teacher ,and Shannon Darcy, social studies teacher.
