UCA’s Haywood named region’s teacher of year

Uwharrie Charter Academy’s Lee Haywood, UCA Middle School Art Teacher, is the Piedmont Regional Teacher of the Year.  

The-nine-year UCA teacher serves as a beginning Teacher Mentor, is part of school improvement teams, and she created an Art’s Night (“A Night at the Museum’’). Additionally, she is a state level presenter for the NCAEA on topics such as, “Recycling, Repurposing, & Rethinking STEAM.”  

She’s also active in the community and in national and state level programs such as the Randolph County Art Education Alliance, the NC Association of Scholastic Activities, the National Art Education Association and the NC Art Education Association, where she presents and serves as a workshop leader. 

The NC Department of Public Instruction reps presented her award on Dec. 14.
