Kids play around with soccer balls in the new arena after the dedication.

On Saturday, Feb. 7, the Asheboro-Randolph YMCA held a dedication for its new indoor arena built behind the YMCA.
It will be known as a soccer arena, and it can be used as one court for adults or two courts for younger kids. However, it can also be used for pickleball (2 courts), yoga classes, summer camps, maybe the occasional birthday party, with member nights, league nights, team practices all possibilities for the potential schedule.
The playing court is about 50 feet by 138 feet. Scoreboards will eventually be fitted on the walls.
The new arena is called the Senator Dave Craven Soccer Arena in honor of the state senator from Randolph County who led the effort to procure $500,000 toward building it.
With help from community partners in pricing and donations of labor or even materials, the result is about a $1.5 million working facility at no cost to the Y.
