YMCA’s annual Craft Fair is Saturday

ASHEBORO — The Randolph-Asheboro YMCA’s annual Holiday Craft Fair is Saturday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the YMCA, 343 NC Hwy 42, Asheboro.

The event, held the second Saturday in November of each year, includes shopping opportunities with more than 80 vendor tables set up in the gymnasium.

Guests can register for door prizes or enjoy food from a Food Truck Food Court that will feature Lelo’s Cuban Cafe, The Kid In Me Tastee Treats and Space Walk of Asheboro.

Also, enjoy Cookies With Santa from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Get a picture with Santa for $20, with proceeds going to Christmas boxes for military troops.

’Twas The Night Before Christmas will be read at the top of each hour.

 

Fall Frozen Food Sale at 1st Evangelical Saturday

ASHEBORO — 1st Evangelical & Reformed UCC will be the site of one of its popular frozen food sales on Saturday, Nov. 11.

The church is located at 221 Cliff Road, Asheboro. The sale lasts from 8-10 a.m. No pre-orders are allowed.

Items to be sold include:

 Chicken Pies — Large 9 inch $12;  Small 7-inch $8.

 Casseroles — $8 each for Broccoli, Squash or Sweet Potato.

 Meat Casseroles — $10 each for      Tamale Pie or Baked Spaghetti.

 Soups — $8 each for Chicken Noodle, Chicken Taco or Vegetable Beef.

Desserts include:

 Persimmon Pudding — 8 x 8 inches, $10; 9 x 13, $20.

 Peach and Apple Cobblers:  $8.

 Grady’s Fried Apple Pies: $4.

 Persimmon Pulp: 2 cups $.

Other assorted items will be available.

This event will take place in the Fellowship Hall behind the church. Enter through the kitchen doors. Parking is available at the rear entrance to the Fellowship Hall, along Randolph Street and Cliff Road, and in the parking lots across from the front of the church.

Visitors are welcome to wear a mask and to respect distances between each other. 25 people at a time will be allowed to shop. For payment, use cash or a check made out to “1st E&R UCC”.

Bring your own shopping bag for your purchases. Plastic bags will be available.  

 

Randolph Quilters to hold two-day event this weekend

ASHEBORO — The Randolph Quilters Guild’s 2023 Quilt Show is Friday and Saturday at the Randolph County Senior Center, 347, W. Salisbury Street.

The judged show is the highlight for an event that also includes a bistro, boutique, yard sale, door prizes and vendors.

Show times are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

 

Free concerts next week at Asheboro’s Sunset Theatre

ASHEBORO — The Sunset Theatre has a pair of free concerts coming up.

On Sunday, Nov. 12, Glory Road presents a Southern gospel music event to benefit the Rady Lady Foundation. Guests are asked to bring a canned food for entry to the concert, and at intermission, love offerings can be given to the organization, which helps people diagnosed with an illness, cancer or other hardship.

-Friday Night Bluegrass on Nov. 17 features Part 2 of Tim Moon’s annual Talent Showcase, where the local music teacher’s students, young and old, show off their developing skills for a live audience.

 

Final MFC weekend events

The seventh and final weekend events for the Mayors Fitness Challenge will feature a pair of mayor-led walks, one in Seagrove on Saturday and another in Ramseur on Sunday.

You can still register for the MFC at www.healthycommunitiesA3.com, convert your activities to steps and log your steps on the Healthy Communities website. The last day to log steps is Nov. 12. 

For these walks, there is no cost to participate and no pre-registration. The events are open to all who can walk the distance unaided.

 

Saturday — Mayor’s Walk, Seagrove’s Clay Presnell Park

Meet at Clay Presnell Park at 5129 Seagrove Plank Rd in Seagrove at 9 a.m. for a 2-3 mile hike.

Mayor David Fernandez of the Town of Seagrove will be leading the walk.

 

Sunday — Mayor’s Walk, Ramseur Rail Trail

Meet in the parking lot at the Ramseur Rail Trail at 5969 US 64 Hwy near Tower Components just East of the US 64 Highway Bridge.

Mayor Vicki Caudle of the Town of Ramseur will be leading the walk. 

Start time is 9 a.m. for the 1.2-mile walk, with an optional 1.1-mile walk at the 728 Liberty Street trailhead.

Dogs are welcome on either walk but must be on a leash at all times. For either walk, wear comfortable shoes and dress for a fall weather walk. In the event of bad weather, the walk will be canceled.
