Annual Honoring Our Veterans Cruisin’ moves to new location

ASHEBORO — After 12 years at Wayne Thomas Chevrolet, the 13th edition of Honoring Our Veterans Cruisin’ — set for Saturday, Sept. 12 — will move up the road to the Randolph County Agricultural Center at 1880 US 64 East.

The move will provide much more room for events and parking.

The annual event, which honors veterans of all branches of the military, encourages owners of classic vehicles to display their cars and trucks. Car registration is from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. with a $25 non-refundable donation per entry. The show is open to all makes and models.

A silent auction and sales of quilt tickets will be held from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and entries for the 50/50 drawing will be taken from 8 a.m. to 1:50 p.m.

Viewing and bidding of the silent auction items is currently available in the lobby of Wayne Thomas Chevrolet. The items will be transported on the day of the show, where bidding will resume until 1:45 p.m. The winning bid for each item will be posted at the silent auction booth at 2 p.m.

A Texaco reproduction gas pump is one of many items featured in the silent auction. The rules include:

■ You do not have to be present to win.

■ The winning bid will be posted on the day of the show at 2 p.m.

■ The winner has 30 days to pick up the gas pump from Wayne Thomas Chevrolet. After 30 days, the gas pump will be sold and the proceeds will go to the Randolph County Veterans Council.

Activities will begin at 9 a.m. in the auditorium with a prayer by presenting sponsor Wayne Thomas, a flag raising ceremony and Pledge of Allegiance led by the Southwestern Randolph High School JROTC.

Outside will be the car show, food vendors and the Big Red Bus Bloodmobile. Armed Forces recruiting officers will be in the auditorium.

At 11:30 a.m., veterans will meet in front of the auditorium, then at 11:45 a.m., all World War II veterans will be asked to go to the stage, where they will be led to the stage, followed by a moment of silence honoring the memory of fallen veterans.

The National Anthem will be performed at noon followed at 12:05 p.m. by a talk from Harry Brower Sr. of the Randolph County Veterans Council, who will speak on the struggles of veterans.

The Redline Band will provide music from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m., including “God Bless the USA” at 1 p.m. The silent auction will close at 1:45 p.m. and the drawing for the quilt will be held at 1:50 p.m.

To end the program, “Taps” will be played at 2:05 p.m.

All proceeds each year go to the Randolph County Veterans Council, an organization that serves the veterans of Randolph County.

Rain date for the 2026 Honoring Our Veterans Cruisin’ is Sept. 19.
