Whitaker Farms offers up its own Food Truck Festival on Saturday
CLIMAX — Whitaker Farms in Climax will be the site for a Food Truck Festival on Saturday, Aug. 9.
A variety of local trucks serving crowd favorites and sweet treats will be onsite from 3 to 8 p.m. with the Whitaker Farms bakery open until 5 p.m.
There will be a KidsZone and live music down by the pond.
Whitaker’s is located at 2991 Providence Church Road.
Elvis is back on screen for this Thrifty Thursday movie: ‘Roustabout’
ASHEBORO — Elvis Presley’s “Roustabout” will be this month’s movie choice for Thrifty Thursday at Sunset Theatre on Aug. 7.
Each month, the theatre offers a showing targeted largely toward seniors but open to anyone. A movie admission price of $5 includes a popcorn and small drink.
Visitors 50 and over get in free thanks to local sponsors.
Annual Jeep Fest set for Denton FarmPark Aug. 9
DENTON — If you’re into Jeeps, Denton FarmPark may be the place for you on Saturday, Aug. 9.
That’s when the FarmPark’s Jeep Fest takes place, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be numerous local and national vendors offering parts for Jeeps, a gunshow in the craft barn, and food vendors onsite.
The park will be operating its train for anyone wanting to ride the Handy Dandy Rail Road and music will be provided in the music hall. There will be an obstacle course in “The Pit” for anyone who wants to play in the mud.
The Denton FarmPark will have a Jeep Ride down to Uwharrie so you can get All day Trail Ride Tickets before coming back to the park.

Hike to Cooper Mountain Cemetery on tap for Sunday, Aug. 10
The next Healthy Communities Hike will take walkers to the Cooper Mountain Cemetery in the Uwharrie NF’s Birkhead Wilderness, where a local veteran of the Revolutionary War is buried.
The hike starts at Robbins Branch Trailhead and crosses Hannah’s Creek to Cooper Mountain right here in Randolph County.
Hikers can meet at the trailhead at 2 p.m. or at the Farmer’s Market in Downtown Asheboro, 134 S. Church St., at 1:30 p.m. to car pool to the site.
The length is about 2.8 miles round trip from the trailhead with just moderate difficulty. No cost to participate. If it is raining at the time of the hike, the hike will be canceled.
Tea with Seagrove Potters takes place Saturday; here’s where
SEAGROVE — Six Seagrove pottery shops have partnered with Carriage House Tea of Asheboro, The Table of Asheboro and Seagrove Cafe to create a fun-filled day of shopping and tea tasting.
On Aug. 9, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Blue Hen, Eck McCanless, Dean and Martin, From the Ground Up, Red Hare and Thomas potteries welcome visitors to Tea with Seagrove Potters.
Each shop will feature iced tea from Carriage House Tea, and pastries from the Table and Seagrove Cafe, as well as homemade treats for visitors to sample.

Another Summer Concert set for Sunday: Special Occasion Band
ASHEBORO — Special Occasion Band will take the stage on Sunday, Aug. 10 in the next-to-last Sunday Summer Concerts event of the summer.
These concerts take place in Bicentennial Park in downtown Asheboro from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Food trucks will be onsite and some restaurants and drinking establishments will be open within easy walkable distances, but the Zoo City Social District will not be active as no alcohol is allowed in these Sunday events.
Bring your own chair and blanket (and even dancing shoes, if you want) for this outdoor concert.
Final Rock’n the Park for ’25:Chicago tribute band Aug. 15
ASHEBORO — Just off the heels of an overflowing crowd for the Bon Jovi tribute band concert on July 25 will be the fourth and final Rock’n the Park concert of the summer. On Friday, Aug. 15, fans will get to go way back for Chicago Rewired: The Premier Chicago Tribute in an outdoor concert at Bicentennial Park in downtown Asheboro.
The band Chicago has sold over 100,000,000 albums, which include 21 top 10 singles, so there will be plenty to reminisce with as a group of seasoned musicians seek to accurately replicate the famous group.
The concert is free, but bring your own chair or blanket. Food trucks will be onsite and local restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance will be open. The Zoo City Social District will be in effect.
The window for the night is 6 to 10 p.m., with a warmup group starting at 6 or 6:30 and the main performers coming on about 8 p.m. The opening acts for Aug. 15 will be Jesse Fox and then Colin Cutler & Hot Pepper Jam.
Aug. 15 is also Sunset Theatre’s Friday Night Bluegrass
ASHEBORO — Southeast Express will be the band playing in this month’s Friday Night Bluegrass program at Sunset Theatre, 234 Sunset Ave., Asheboro.
Southeast Express performs traditional, Gospel, and contemporary bluegrass with a little comedy thrown in and an occasional country or rock’n’roll song for variety.
Current members include Jim Boren of Pleasant Garden on dobro, guitar and vocals; Ray Coble of Julian on bass and vocals; Jon Cox of Randleman on mandolin and vocals; Brian Faircloth of High Point on guitar and vocals; and Jeff Wiseman of Reidsville on banjo and vocals. Admission is $10.
Letters From Home event returnsto Sunset Theatre Saturday, Aug. 16
ASHEBORO — Erinn and Dan of Letters From Home are back again to support Randolph County veterans and their families with a show that incorporates hits from the WWII and Vietnam eras in one show.
Admission is donation-based, with all donations from this event going to support local veteran projects. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the three-hour event, which begins at 7. Tickets can be purchased online for $12.51. Visit sunsettheatre.org for a link to the ticket site.
