Kids movie schedule set for Sunset Theatre and CInemark

ASHEBORO — If summer is approaching, it must be time for the annual look at kids movies being shown on a weekly basis both at Sunset Theatre in downtown Asheboro and at Cinemark Asheboro in the Asheboro Mall once school lets out for the summer.

Once a week during the no-school summer months, the City of Asheboro makes kids movies available at the Sunset Theatre, 234 Sunset Ave. 

That set of 10 weekly movies will be shown on Tuesdays beginning on June 16 and ending on Aug. 18.

The early showings each week, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., are $5 per person with the 7 p.m. showing each week at $8 per person. Admission prices include a drink and popcorn.

Cinemark summer movies

Meanwhile, Cinemark Asheboro shows movies every Wednesday at 10 a.m. as part of its Summer Movie Clubhouse for kids. Movies are $1.75 to see with $1 off kids snack packs or any size popcorn and drink combos.

The Cinemark movie schedule — also a 10-week schedule — begins earlier in the summer, with the first one in Asheboro Mall on Wednesday, June 3. The weekly series also ends earlier, in early August (Aug. 5 in Asheboro).

This year’s Cinemark lineup includes mostly movies that made their debut in 2025, so if you missed them the first time around, here’s your chance to see them on the big screen:

■ June 3: Paddington (2015).

■ June 10: Sonic the Hedgehog (2020).

■ June 17: KPop Demon Hunters (2025)

■ June 24: Shrek Forever After (2010)

■ July 1: The SpongeBob Movie (2025) 

■ July 8: Minecraft Movie (2025) 

■ July 15: Dog Man (2025)

■ July 22: How to Train Your Dragon (2025)

■ July 29: The Bad Guys 2 (2025)

■ Aug. 5: Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie (2025).
