This is the lineup for Thrifty Thursdays this year at the Sunset Theatre
Thrifty Thursday movie: ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’
ASHEBORO — In the midst of all the free movies offered at Sunset Theatre in downtown Asheboro this week is another classic for Thrifty Thursday: “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” While the movies on tap for the America250 celebration (see page 3A) are all free, this one is, too, for moviegoers age 50 and up (all others just pay $5, which includes a popcorn and a drink). The movie will show at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, at the theatre at 234 Sunset Ave. Watch out for the rolling rock!
Stepping Out with Seagrove Potters begins July 4
SEAGROVE — July is another good time to enjoy a chance to get up close and personal with the many potteries littered throughout Seagrove and nearby areas. Stepping Out with Seagrove Potters happens on every Saturday every July. Take a self-tour of potteries and enjoy kiln openings, demonstrations and even some hands-on experiences as you learn how these local artisans go about their craft. Find out which potters are doing what and when by visiting https://discoverseagrove.com.
Sundays mean music, wine and food at Zimmerman’s
TRINITY — Songwriter Sundays continue at Zimmerman Vineyards each Sunday through the summer and some fall months. Bring your own food (or buy a goat cheese platter there), purchase some local wine and enjoy music on an outdoor patio each Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. This week’s musical guest is Justin Reid; next Sunday, it’s the Brown Mountain Lightning Bugs. Zimmerman’s is located at 1428 Tabernacle Church Road, just west of Asheboro.
Crash Radio goes to Millstone Creek Orchards
RAMSEUR — RhinoLeap’s Crash Radio Series sets up shop in Ramseur on Monday, July 6, in Millstone Creed Orchards’ new Cider House. The radio series films live bands from around the area and state in various locations throughout the area and then edits the recordings into smaller segments that are broadcast on local radio stations WKXR 94.9 FM every Monday at 6:15 p.m. and on WFDD 88.5 FM every Friday at 5:50 p.m. But you can enjoy the concerts live for $10 and have some local food and spirits while doing so. The Cider House is located at 506 Parks Crossroads Church Road on the Raleigh side of Ramseur.
More Sunday night concerts on the horizon
ASHEBORO — The next Sunday Night Concert Series event will happen on Sunday, July 19, when The Catalinas take the stage in Bicentennial Park in downtown Asheboro. The third of five Sunday night musical happenings in Asheboro this summer run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and are free to attend. Food trucks join open downtown restaurants to feed you. Just bring your own chair for the grassy, outdoor event. The other Sunday concerts on tap are Phatt City on Aug. 9 and The Entertainers on Sept. 13.
