Mother’s Day weekend means it is time again for the Malpass Brothers’ Bluegrass & Country Music festival, May 11-13, at the Denton FarmPark. The musical event began in 1979 and was hosted by Doyle Lawson until his retirement at the close of 2021. This will be the second year for the new hosts, Chris and Taylor Malpass and their classic country band.
FarmPark co-owner, Karen Miller, shared, "We are so excited to have the Malpass Brothers back as the host band. They put on such a great show! The Malpass Brothers are a perfect fit for the festival."
This year’s schedule features some of the best in bluegrass that includes Authentic Unlimited, the Lonesome River Band, Little Roy & Lizzy, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, Seth Mulder & Midnight Run, Appalachian Road Show, and many more. In addition to the classic country of the Malpass Brothers, another well-known country artist, Jimmy Fortune, tenor singer for the Statler Brothers for 21 years and composer of their hit “Elizabeth”, will appear on Saturday.
Co-host Taylor Malpass stated. “I’m really excited about the second annual Malpass Brothers’ festival. I’d like to thank everyone who came last year to support us on our new adventure and thank all the bluegrass folks for welcoming us in to the family! I can’t wait to spend days and nights hanging out with everyone and making everyone feel like family. I hope that everyone has a blast and will come for the next years to come. Let’s make some new memories at an old festival! Love all y’all and see you at the gate!”
Brother Chris agreed. “We are so excited to be coming back to Denton. Every time it feels like home with all our friends and family. We want each person to know they are important and we plan to be out and about the entire time. So what we are saying is, ‘Come up and visit!’ lol See y’all soon!”
