The Randolph County Veterans Council invites you to participate in local activities set out below in observance of Memorial Day:
WEDNESDAY, MAY 24
From 5:30-6:30 pm, the Veterans Council will be at American Legion Post 45 in Asheboro distributing American flags to be placed on the graves of local veterans as part of OPERATION REMEMBRANCE. The goal of OPERATION REMEMBRANCE is to ensure that every veteran's grave in Randolph County is marked by an American flag each year for Memorial Day and Veterans Day. There are more than 300 cemeteries in Randolph County, so we need the public's help to achieve that goal.
SATURDAY, MAY 27
At 9 am, local veterans organizations and volunteers from the public will place American flags on the graves of veterans at Randolph Memorial Park and at Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro as part of OPERATION REMEMBRANCE.
MONDAY, MAY 29
At 4 pm, the Veterans Council will sponsor a Memorial Day ceremony at the Historic Randolph County Courthouse, located at 145 Worth Street in Asheboro. The ceremony will start inside in the Commissioners Meeting Room, then finish outside at the Randolph County Veterans Memorial. U.S. Marine Corps veteran Filmore York will be the guest speaker.
