ASHEBORO — The Historic Downtown Asheboro Ghostwalk is a walking tour of the downtown Asheboro area. Tour guides share spooky, but also historically accurate stories about Asheboro and the people who lived there.
Tours last approximately 1 hour and originate from the Asheboro Cultural & Recreation Services office at 241 Sunset Ave.
Ghostwalks take place on each Tuesday during the first three weeks of the month, with each of those Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and again at 8:30.
During the last week of October, the impetus switches from walking to riding on a trolley. The Historic Downtown Asheboro Ghostride is similar to the Ghostwalk, but the trolley is able to cover more ground and thus get more stories into the hour time slot.
During the Ghostride, patrons ride around downtown Asheboro on a climate-controlled trolley with tour guides sharing spooky and historically accurate stories about Asheboro and the people who lived there.
Ghostride tours originate from the Asheboro Farmers’ Market at 134 S. Church Street.
Once during the ride, the trolley stops and everyone gets off for a brief walk to hear another story.
For both the walks and rides, all patrons are required to sign a liability waiver at check-in, so it’s helpful to arrive 15 minutes prior to start time.
Ghostrides take place on Tuesday, Oct. 28, and Thursday, Oct. 30, at two times each night, 7 p.m. and 8:30.
Ghostwalk tickets are $20 person and Ghostrides are $40. No refunds or exchanges will be available.
The tour is recommended for patrons ages 13 & up.
Tickets can be purchased online at sunsettheatre.org or in person at the Cultural and Recreation Services Office, 241 Sunset Ave. The City of Asheboro presents the tours, with Edward & Susan Wenda as sponsors.
As of Friday, Sept. 26, tickets remained for all the Ghostwalks except for the 7 p.m. tour on Oct. 21, which is sold out. Seats remained for all of the Ghostrides.
