Rock’n the Park returns: This time it’s Coldplay tribute band Fix You

ASHEBORO — In the second of four Rock’n the Park concerts sponsored by the City of Asheboro and Downtown Asheboro Inc., Fix You will take the stage to bring an International Tribute to Coldplay to Bicentennial Park in Asheboro on Friday, June 27.

The group, based in Charlotte, originally formed as “42” in June of 2016 but changed its name to “Fix You” in February, 2019. Since then it has played in venues throughout the United States and in several other countries.

“Fix You” refers to a song written by Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin for his then-wife Gwyneth Paltrow, to help her cope with the grief of her father’s death. Bruce Paltrow passed away in 2002, and the song is a reflection of Martin’s attempt to comfort her during that difficult time.

Meanwhile, this tribute band describes itself this way:

“We don’t view ourselves as another ‘Tribute’ band on the bill or an act of imitation. Instead, we pour ourselves into every song and performance out of our own genuine love for Coldplay and their music.

“The raw energy and emotion we devote to each song is sincere and we’re insanely humbled to have this opportunity to bring this to live stages all across the world.

“As ardent fans, we’ve set out to be the tribute band that we ourselves would be clamoring to see time after time. We strive to leave no stone unturned for a well rounded experience covering Coldplay’s extensive body of work, ranging from ‘Parachutes’ to ‘Prospekt’s March.’ To put it simply, it’s Fix You’s goal to bring the greatest glimpse into the Coldplay experience and we hope to translate to our audiences the elation it gives us to play their amazing work.

“So please come & share with us these very special songs in celebration of one of the greatest and most influential groups of our time!”

The group consists of Daniel Owen on bass, Will Ross on lead guitar, Patrick McFall on lead vocals and cadence on guitar, Jefferson Nunnery on drums and Dobie on consoles.

While DAI arranges the group reservations, RhinoLeap Productions brings in entertainers to warm up the main acts. For this show, those early acts include Story Charlemagne and Abigail Dowd.

The concert time is set for 6-10 p.m. with the opening acts finishing up around 7:30 and the main performers hitting the stage around 8.

Food trucks will be on site as additional options along with the many downtown restaurants, bars and pubs set up within easy walking distance of the grassy Bicentennial Park area, which is expected to be filled with thousands of people and probably a few dogs, too.

The Zoo City Social District will be in effect so alcoholic beverages from local establishments may be brought to the park in properly marked cups.

The setting is outdoors, so bring your own folding chairs or blankets to sit on.

The concert is free to the public. In case of threatening weather, DAI will provide updates throughout the day on its social media sites.
