True Grass

Among local favorites for monthly Friday Night Bluegrass series held on the third Friday of each month, True Grass is a local bluegrass and gospel band whose members have been picking together for many years.

The group consists of Tim Moon on mandolin, Gary Callicutt on bass, William Britt on guitar, Matthew Nance on banjo and Nolan Moon on fiddle.

Tickets for this performance are $10.

Rhythm & Zoo Fest

Asheboro’s Rhythm & Zoo Fest comes from a partnership between the city and the North Carolina Zoo, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. As part of the partnership, the NC Zoo will provide each attendee with a coupon to the Zoo as well as other fun opportunities.

What will those attendees see?

On Friday night, the Fest opens with Ray Fuller & the Bluesrockers Band. Formed in 1978, it mastered its craft throughout the ’80s and ’90s. Fuller was quick to become the “go-to” act throughout Ohio to open for iconic blues musicians such as Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy and more. Fuller’s latest release, “Pay the Price,” has been on the RMR Contemporary Blues Album of the Year and Blues Album of the Year Charts.

On Saturday night, Cory Luetjen & the Traveling Blues Band performs. From Asheboro, the band is a two-time blues challenge winning group and a regional favorite that performs throughout the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Virginia. The band’s high energy brings a charismatic mix of blues, funk and beach music to the stage.

Tickets are $20 each night or $35 total for both nights.

Caroline Owens

Performing for the second time, Caroline Owens returns for Friday Night Bluegrass with a 7 p.m. concert.

Hailing from nearby Denton, Owens is a two-time IBMA nominated Bluegrass Vocalist and recording artist for Skyline Records of Nashville, Tennessee. She has performed alongside many accomplished artists such as Alison Krauss, Ricky Skaggs and Rhonda Vincent to name a few.

Her vocal abilities, paired with her down home Southern charm, have received critical acclaim from the music industry’s most accomplished performers. She has become one of the most successful, young vocalists in the Bluegrass genre.
