Songwriters Showcase to benefit the Laura Lisk Foundation

ASHEBORO – Hometown singer/songwriter/musician Terry Vuncannon is orchestrating an evening of local talent to raise money for a good cause.

This Friday night, Nov. 11, there will be a North Carolina Songwriters’ Showcase at the Sunset Theatre to benefit the Love Like Laura Foundation (in memory of Laura Lisk) at 7 p.m.

Vuncannon explained the event: “(It’s) some artists in the area that are songwriters and are good friends of mine. We are looking forward to playing for the local crowd and hoping to have a good time.”

Performing all their own original music will be Ron Hutchens, Kristy Jackson, Doug Davis, Cory Luetjen & the Traveling Blues Band, and Vuncannon.

Each songwriter will perform 3-4 of their songs, sharing the back story for their inspirations.

Cory Luetjen & the Traveling Blues Band will conclude the event with a mini-set.

“It’s been a goal of mine to put on a show of all North Carolina musicians and do it at the Sunset Theatre. It has finally worked out and the timing is perfect,” Vuncannon said.

Proceeds will go to the Love Like Laura Foundation.

Laura’s dad, Reynolds Lisk, shared, “Many times love and blessings come through tragedy. On November 27th, 2016, we lost our precious daughter, Laura, in a fatal auto accident. Friends approached us in the dark days following Laura’s accident about starting a Donor Advised Fund/Charitable Foundation in her honor. We loved the idea and wanted the foundation to be dedicated to helping those less fortunate. Anyone that knew Laura knew she had a huge heart for people and/or animals that were struggling in any way.

“The Laura Lisk #LoveLikeLaura Foundation is dedicated to carrying on this legacy for her here in Randolph County. One of the greatest things about this foundation and this event is that every dollar generated through the ticket sales and donations will go toward helping others. There are no administrative expenses, commissions or accounting fees. Literally, every penny donated (including interest and net earnings growth) will go towards a 501c3 non-profit or church in Randolph County.

“The money is invested through the US Charitable Gift Trust and is conservatively managed in both income and growth mutual fund-type portfolios. All donations to the foundation are 100% tax deductible.”
