RANDLEMAN – St. Paul Museum's opening program for the year will be presented by Don Farlow. His topic is the Uwharrie Cliff Mills (Miller’s Mill) on the Uwharrie River.

Not only will he talk about the origins and history of the mill and its connection to the Civil War and Randolph County, he will also supplement his presentation with large screen pictures.

Local history is not only interesting, but it helps us understand a part of how Randolph County came to be and how it fits into the history of the times. Everything has a history and all of it can be interesting. There will also be a time to ask questions.

The interior appearance of St. Paul, however, is somewhat altered because the restoration of the church’s interior painting has begun. However, you must not expect to see any actual painting for some time. This is because a lot of preparation of the existing surfaces must come first. All surfaces —floors and walls — must be thoroughly cleaned and repaired.

This cleaning is not simply a scrubbing with soap and water, but must be achieved with special materials that will not destroy any aspect of the surface. Also at this time, any needed repairs to the plaster must be made. Only after all surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and repaired can the restoration of the painting begin.

Complete restoration will take months, but any inconvenience involved will certainly be worth the results that will be achieved. Remember, there is no church anywhere with such interior painting as was originally here in this church. The restored interior will be unique.

Please join us this Sunday, March 17, at 2 p.m., for a most interesting program. As always, we are at the corner of Stout and High Point Streets in Randleman.
