ASHEBORO — RhinoLeap’s production of “Million Dollar Quartet” — a tale of a rare and happenstance jam session involving Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins back in 1956 — resumes on May 2-5 and wraps up on May 9-12.
Onstage actor-musicians will help you relive the era with a memorable score of rock ’n’ roll, gospel, R&B and country hits performed live onstage via 10 performances at the Sunset Theatre in downtown Asheboro. The production is directed by Peggy Taphorn.
Starting times are 7:30 p.m. for the evening shows and 2:30 p.m. for two Sunday matinees (May 5 and 12).
Tickets ranges from $20-$40.
The RhinoLeap production is a co-production with Temple Theater in Sanford where it has already played to rave reviews.
Among the actors in key roles are:
- Zachary Tate is taking the part of Johnny Cash. Tate is a native of Savannah, GA, and a graduate of the University of Georgia where he received degrees in theatre and photojournalism. He’s a featured actor with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and has played key roles in many productions.
- Hunter Semrau will play Jerry Lee Lewis. A New York based singer, actor and musician originally from Canada, he has spent the greater part of his life performing in musicals as well as playing both piano and guitar in various acoustic groups, dueling piano concerts, and rock bands. He has been in “Million Dollar Quartet Christmas” and “Million Dollar Quartet” national tours.
- Tarif Pappu is taking the part of Carl Perkins. An actor/musician from the Bay Area in California, he has performed throughout the country for the last 10 years and was last seen playing Carl Perkins in “Million Dollar Quartet” at the Candlelight Dinner Theater in Colorado. In his spare time, he enjoys talking about the Grateful Dead.
- Jacob Barton is all shook up to return to the role of Elvis. He previously played the crooner on the national tour of “Million Dollar Quartet” and regionally at La Mirada Theater, Dutch Apple Dinner Theater and Heritage Theatre Festival.
