ASHEBORO, N.C. (ACME NEWS) — An 82-year-old woman was critically injured Monday after being struck by a vehicle on N. Fayetteville St. near Salisbury St., Asheboro police said.

At approximately 5:56 p.m., Asheboro police, Asheboro fire, and Randolph County EMS responded to the intersection of N. Fayetteville St. and W. Salisbury St. after receiving a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

According to the Asheboro Police Department, the woman, from Asheboro, was attempting to cross the street when she was hit by a 2001 GMC Sierra. Police described her injuries as life-threatening. She was taken to Randolph Hospital, and UNC AirCare transported her from the Randolph Health helipad to an out-of-county medical facility.
