ASHEBORO — The Randolph County Board of Elections has set the dates for the Asheboro primary coming up on Oct. 7.
The primary is needed to weed out large fields of candidates for the Asheboro City Council and Asheboro Mayor elections set for Nov. 4.
Fourteen candidates for council seats will be narrowed to eight candidates. Four mayoral candidates will be reduced to two following the primary.
Mayoral candidates included Eddie Burks, Joey Trogdon, Brett M. Thompson and Jennyfer Bucardo.
Council candidates include Phillip R. Cheek, Mary Joan M. Pugh, Kelly W. Heath, Al LaPrade, Phil Skeen, Dave Thomas, Jimmy T. Efird, Katie L. Snuggs, Joel McClosky, William (Bill) McCaskill, Kevin Garcia Cordova, Timothy Woodle, Pamela Vuncannon and Aaron McClendon.
A candidates forum has been set for Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. to meet candidates and ask questions. It will be held at the George Washington Carver Center, 950 MLK Jr. Drive, Asheboro.
