Fatal Shooting in Asheboro Robbery Claims Life of Navy Veteran

ASHEBORO, N.C. (ACME NEWS) — A man was fatally shot Monday morning during an armed robbery at a business on East Dixie Drive, according to Asheboro police.

The incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. when officers responded to a call reporting a robbery at 64 Skillz, located at 1520 E. Dixie Drive in Asheboro. While en route, they were informed that a shooting had taken place and the suspects had fled the scene.

When officers arrived, they discovered the body of 39-year-old David Matthew Davis inside the business.

Captain Hill from the Asheboro Police Department's Investigative Division noted in an email that Mr. Davis, as confirmed by his wife and employer, was a Navy veteran, which he described as making the incident "all the more tragic here on Veteran’s Day."

The owner of 64 Skillz has announced plans to offer a substantial cash reward in connection with the case. Authorities emphasized that while establishments such as 64 Skillz can become targets for robberies, there were no active investigations specifically concerning this business prior to the incident.

The Asheboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is leading the investigation. No arrests have been made at this time. In a statement, the Asheboro Police Department said that “detectives are diligently pursuing all available leads” and that additional details remain undisclosed due to the sensitive nature of the investigation.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective E. Williamson at ewilliamson@ci.asheboro.nc.us or Randolph County Crime Stoppers at 336-672-7463. Tips can also be submitted through P3TIPS.com or RandolphCS.org. Crime Stoppers callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible to receive a cash reward if their information leads to an arrest, recovery of stolen property, location of missing persons, seizure of illegal narcotics, clearance of homicide cases, or closure of cold cases.
