ASHEBORO — Mayor David Smith has put out a request for help with Western North Carolina’s ongoing hurricane recovery.
At the Feb. 6 City Council meeting, he shared a letter he received from Blossman Services, a gas company in Asheville.
According to the letter, Swannanoa residents displaced by Hurricane Helene are running low on propane gas. It reads, “A good portion of folks are still in tents, campers and trailers that have no other source of heat other than the small heaters connected to propane gas tanks.”
Blossman Services said Patty Parry, finance manager of MV Development, Inc. dba Piedmont Ready Mix, is helping with tank refills and under-pinnings and will deliver supplies to Swannanoa.
According to Smith, they need monetary donations to help cover the cost of refilling tanks. Blossman Services set up an account to accept these donations. Donors may request a receipt, but they are not tax deductible.
Blossman advised anyone who would like to donate to send donations to Blossman Services, Inc. at 170 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, 28803. Checks should be made out to Acct. no 5600365 “Swannanoa Relief.”
Anyone who would like to donate supplies should first contact Patty Parry at 336-672-0957. She can also answer questions anyone might have.
Randolph County staff, first responders and civilians stepped up to collect donations after Hurricane Helene hit the mountain region in September.
Police, sheriff’s deputies and firefighters were among those who traveled to Swannanoa and other communities to assist with clean-up and recovery.
