ASHEBORO — The City of Asheboro was forced to make numerous road repairs last week following multiple water main breaks that occurred Monday afternoon, July 7.
The city said in a press release that there were no known public health risks associated with the water system.
Utility crews worked late into the evening on July 7 to repair the breaks affecting larger mains and service was restored to affected areas.
The next day, crews continued to repair approximately 10 leaks located on smaller lines throughout the system.
Work continued until all identified leaks were repaired and the water distribution system fully stabilized.
The initial water main breaks reported occurred in the following areas:
■ Commerce Street.
■ 1100 block of South Fayetteville Street.
■ Scarboro Street.
■ Tremont Drive.
■ South High Street.
■ Clay Street.
■ 1900 block of North Fayetteville Street.
Preliminary findings indicated that the breaks resulted from unexpected pressure imbalances that occurred during regularly scheduled maintenance activities on a water storage tank.
Protocols and procedures were revised to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
Residents who experience water service issues or observe suspected leaks are encouraged to contact the City of Asheboro Public Works Department at 336-626-1234.
