No Injuries After Small Fire at Una Mas; Police Investigating

ASHEBORO — A small fire broke out Sunday afternoon at Una Mas Modern Mexican + Margaritas,  prompting a response from emergency crews and an investigation by police.

On Sunday, June 1, at 1:17 p.m., the Asheboro Fire and Rescue Department (AFRD) was dispatched to Una Mas restaurant at 1337 E Dixie Dr. Fire crews arrived within three minutes to find smoke visible and occupants exiting the building.

“I came out of Food Lion and looked over wondering why Una Mas got so busy, then I realized it wasn't a line to get in, it was an evacuation,” said Susan Lively who witnessed the scene and later posted photos on Facebook showing the emergency response.

A small fire was located in a restroom and quickly extinguished, with fire crews reporting the fire was fully under control by 1:24 p.m. According to the officials, the fire was confined to a trash can in the men's restroom. No injuries were reported, and the damage was limited to the restroom.

The restaurant was re-opened at 5 p.m., later that day. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Asheboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
