ASHEBORO, N.C. — Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect vehicle connected to the fatal shooting during an armed robbery at a business earlier this month.
The robbery and shooting occurred early in the morning on Veterans Day at 64 Skillz, located at 1520 E. Dixie Drive. Officers responding to the scene discovered the body of 39-year-old David Matthew Davis, a U.S. Navy veteran who leaves behind a wife and three children of various degrees of special needs.
On Wednesday, Nov. 20, the Asheboro Police Department announced that the suspect vehicle is a gray 2013 Toyota Avalon with North Carolina registration plate LAH-9992. However, police warned that the vehicle may now be using different tags.
The car has visible damage to both corners of the rear bumper and the driver’s side rear quarter panel. Police said they have issued a be-on-the-lookout alert (BOLO) through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
Authorities released surveillance images showing two suspects dressed in dark clothing, hoods, masks, and gloves.
Police urged the public to use caution if the vehicle is spotted and to immediately call 911 to report its location.
Anyone with information about the case or the suspect vehicle is asked to contact Detective E. Williamson at (336) 626-1300, Ext. 2112, or Randolph County Crime Stoppers at (336) 672-7463. Tips can also be submitted through P3TIPS.com or RandolphCS.org. Crime Stoppers allows anonymous submissions, and tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward if their information leads to an arrest or resolution of the case. Mr Davis’ employer is preparing a significant cash reward in addition to the reward offered by Crime Stoppers.
No arrests have been made, and detectives are continuing to investigate.
