ASHEBORO, N.C. — The Randolph County Board of Elections will hold a public hearing on December 2, 2024, at 4 p.m. at the Board of Elections office in Asheboro to address Republican candidate Jefferson Griffin’s protest of local ballots in the Supreme Court race.
Griffin, who is contesting the validity of approximately 60,000 votes statewide, has raised three challenges in Randolph County.
Specifically, Griffin is challenging one overseas ballot, 582 ballots from voters whose registration information is incomplete, such as missing driver’s license numbers or the last four digits of Social Security numbers, and six ballots cast by voters in Randolph County who passed away before Election Day.
The State Board of Elections has taken over two of Griffin’s protests, leaving only the six ballots from deceased voters under local review.
North Carolina law prohibits the counting of ballots from voters who die before Election Day, even if they cast their vote early, either in person or absentee.
In a phone call on November 25, the Randolph County Board of Elections confirmed that they received death certificates and other documentation from relevant agencies to ensure the proper removal of ballots and say they have already dealt with the six ballots.
The December 2nd meeting is open to the public.
