Randolph County still remembers

Randolph Community College (RCC) hosted two ceremonies Friday commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks — a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at the Emergency Services Training Center, which was open to the public, and a ceremony in Azalea Park on the Asheboro Campus for students and employees.

The Azalea Park event featured guest speaker Asheboro Mayor Pro Tem Eddie Burks and guest instrumentalist Carter James, a Southwestern Randolph Middle School 8th grader who played Taps. 

Symbolic stair climbs took place around the country at various heights as a gesture to remember firefighters who were part of the 2,977 lives lost on 9/11. A climb of 2,071 stairs represents the height of the World Trade Center towers.
