ASHEBORO — A teen driver died in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning, according to the State Highway Patrol.
According to a press release from the N.C. Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 5:04 a.m. on U.S. 220 Business near Cedar Grove Road in Randolph County.
Troopers say 15-year-old Adrian Jimenez of Asheboro was driving north in a 2008 Ford Expedition when the vehicle crossed the center line, left the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. Jimenez, who was the sole occupant of the SUV, died at the scene.
A section of U.S. 220 Business where the accident occurred was closed for about three hours while troopers conducted their investigation. The scene was cleared at 9:21 a.m. The Highway Patrol says the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
