ASHEBORO — A pair of crashes on Interstate 73/74 caused significant traffic disruptions Wednesday morning, temporarily shutting down the roadway.
According to the Asheboro Police Department, two separate crashes occurred in the area of Interstate 73/74 northbound near the Sunset Avenue exit Wednesday morning.
The first incident occurred at 9:14 a.m., involving two-vehicles. Shortly after, at 9:37 a.m., a second crash was reported involving a single vehicle, a tanker truck, which was hauling non-hazardous material.
Responding agencies, including the Asheboro Police Department, Asheboro Fire & Rescue, and Westside Fire & Rescue, worked to clear the scene. Traffic was detoured on to NC 42 before rejoining I-73/74.
The crashes resulted in significant backups on the northbound side, resulting in long delays for drivers.
A large amount of mud from the wrecks added to cleanup efforts, further delaying the reopening of the roadway.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported in either crash.
The interstate was fully reopened by 1:30 p.m.
