RAMSEUR — Two Ramseur men have been charged in connection with the theft of cattle stolen earlier this month from a farm in Randolph County.
Deputies were notified on October 17, 2025, by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office and the victim that multiple calves had been stolen from a property on Royal Ridge Road in Ramseur, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office. The animals were later traced to a stockyard in Chatham County.
Investigators obtained warrants on October 20 for Randall Ray Burgess, 34, and Zachary Banks Todd, 44, both of Ramseur. Each was charged with felony larceny of horse, swine, or cattle under G.S. 14-81(a) — a Class H felony under North Carolina law.

The warrants allege the men stole three calves from a local farm. Both were arrested on October 21 and taken to the Randolph County Detention Center.
Burgess received a $20,000 secured bond, while Todd’s bond was set at $25,000. Todd also faces additional Chatham County charges of obtaining property by false pretense, identity theft, and possession of stolen goods/property related to the same incident.
Both men made their first court appearance on October 22 in Randolph County District Court, where a judge appointed counsel and reviewed bond conditions. Their cases are scheduled to return to court on November 5.
