Weekend Altercation At Asheboro Walmart Ends In Stabbing, Arrest

ASHEBORO N.C. — A confrontation at Walmart this weekend ended with one man stabbed and another arrested, according to the Asheboro Police Department. 

On Saturday Nov. 2, 2024, officers responded to Walmart on E. Dixie Dr. in reference to a fight in progress. Once on scene they located Joshua Earl Platt, 26, with a stab wound to his upper left arm. Witnesses and security footage revealed bystanders separated the two men, the other individual involved, Willie George Daye, 35, allegedly reapproached Platt and stabbed him. 

EMS units were dispatched to the scene to evaluate Platt who declined further medical treatment.

Police say as Platt was the initial aggressor during the altercation he was on citation with Simple Assault. Daye was transported from the scene to the Randolph County Jail, where he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury. Daye received a $2,500 unsecured bond.
