Anna Crowell Alexander

GREENSBORO — Anna Crowell Alexander of Greensboro, NC, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the age of 93.

She was born Aug. 14, 1930, in Randolph County and was the daughter of the late George Benjamin Crowell and Ruth Adeline Crowell.

Anna attended Farmer High School and graduated in 1948. After high school, she attended the Commercial College of Asheboro, NC, where she studied Business. 

Anna’s professional career consisted of working in the business office at McCrary Hosiery Mill, as a secretary at Park Street Elementary School, the Chemistry Department at Guilford College and Guidance Secretary at Grimsley High School, where she retired in 1992. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Catherine, JD, Robert, John, Chuck, Lucy, George, William and Nancy.

Anna married Chris Shaw in 1955. Together, they had two children who survive her: Cathy D’Amelio (Mike) of Greensboro and Mark Shaw (Donna) of McLeansville; and a granddaughter, Austyn of Greensboro.

After her divorce from Chris, Anna met Lewey Alexander and the two married in 1990. Combining their beautiful families, they enjoyed many years of love and laughter with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The two also enjoyed many adventures traveling the world until Lewey’s passing in 2013. 

Anna leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and lifelong friends to cherish the memories made. Especially during their beloved family reunions, where family always came from near and far to be together. Anna was a true testament to the power and love of family, and what it means to be a friend.

Anna was a member of Guilford College United Methodist Church, where her services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall; light refreshments will be served.
