Betty Simmons Asbill

January 7, 1940 – November 1, 2026

Betty Simmons Asbill, 86, of Asheboro passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, surrounded by her family at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, 2026, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro with Pastor Joseph Fulk, III, and Pastor Fred Hufsettler officiating. Mrs. Asbill will lie in repose on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, from 1-6 p.m. at Coley Funeral & Cremation Service in Ramseur.

Betty was born in Chatham County on Jan. 7, 1940, to the late Reid and Flossie Cox Simmons.

She was a graduate of Bennett High School where she was active in sports, 4-H, and many other areas. Betty had an exceptional work ethic and retired from Eveready Battery. She was a member of Central Church in Asheboro.

Betty was a one-of-a-kind, spunky and exhumed all of the class of a lady. There are many negotiables in life; however, makeup, jewelry and a pair of high heels were not on that list for Betty. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, bird watching and playing cards. In her creativity, she found joy in quilting and shopping. Betty was spoiled by her husband, her family and her exceptional caregivers.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Mr. Boyce James Asbill, as well as her brother, Kenneth Simmons.

She is survived by her son, Marty Asbill of Asheboro; daughter, Jennifer Byrd (Brad) of Asheboro; and her grandchildren, Jackson Byrd (Gaby) of Coleridge, Isabella Byrd (Justin) and Chapel Kate Byrd, both of Asheboro. She is also survived by her siblings, Rama Maness (Bobby), Sharon Simmons and Linda Allred, all of Bennett.

The family would like to express a special “thank you” to Mrs. Betty’s team of caregivers who quickly became family … the “Sassy Sister’s.” The Asbill family will forever be grateful for the kind, compassionate care of Jennifer Hinton, Farriest Little, Cynthia Mitchell, Annette Butler, Gabby Spinks and Taylor Caviness.
