BOYCE JAMES ASBILL

ASHEBORO — Boyce James Asbill, 86, of Asheboro passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Feb. 28, 2025, at his residence.

Boyce was born in Erect, North Carolina, on Sept. 4, 1938, to Stacy William Asbill and Ruth Moran Asbill. He was a longtime resident of Randolph County, and a member of Central Methodist Church.

Boyce worked for about 55 years in the lab at Burlington Industries, which later became Kayser Roth. While a lab manager at Kayser Roth, Boyce enjoyed having the opportunity to travel to many countries.

He served in the United States Army for two years of service and five years in the United States Army Reserves.

Boyce was a role model to his family and believed in making family his priority. Boyce enjoyed visiting family and friends and always wanted them to know how important they were to him.

Boyce enjoyed playing and coaching baseball, golfing, working on the farm and tending to his cattle. His most prized accomplishment was being a grandfather and he took great pride in his grandchildren and supporting their accomplishments.

Boyce was preceded in death by his parents, Stacy and Ruth Asbill; his brothers, Clyde Asbill, Wade Asbill, Paul Asbill, Harold Asbill and Donald Asbill; and his sisters, Wilma Asbill, Edna Hayes and Elsie Kiser.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Simmons Asbill; his son, Marty Asbill of Asheboro; his daughter, Jennifer Byrd (Brad) of Asheboro; his sisters, Betty Macon of Erect, Jeanette Reeder (Winford) of Seagrove; grandchildren, Jackson Byrd of Coleridge, Isabella Byrd and Chapel Kate Byrd, both of Asheboro; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, at Central Methodist Church, 300 South Main Street in Asheboro, with Rev. Lonnie Pittman and Rev. Fred Huffstetler officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Central Church Family Life Center. A private family burial will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro.

The family extends a special thank you to Mr. Boyce’s team of loving caregivers, whom he called his “buddies,” and the team of nurses at Hospice of Randolph.
