Christopher Martin “Kit” Barrett passed away peacefully June 10, 2022, in Daytona Beach, Florida, where he had recently moved to be closer to more of his family.
Kit was born Aug. 13, 1956, in Vicksburg, MS, to Thomas Gerald Barrett and Mary Lou Buffington Barrett. Kit lived there briefly before his parents moved to Asheboro, NC.
Kit spent most of his years growing up in Asheboro before he left to pursue his chosen career in welding and pipefitting, which took him to many places across America.
Kit loved to play golf and ride his various Harleys over the years before injuries and illness kept him from enjoying them. He bought his last Harley just last year! He was also an incredibly good card player and loved a good game of Oh Hell, Bridge, Poker or any game he could enjoy with his family and friends.
Kit was all about his family and he was part of a big one! He was the oldest son born to Gerald and Mary Lou and he grew up with six brothers and sisters who loved him dearly! He had a big heart, and he would do anything in his power for any of us, and all of us would, and did, anything we could do for him.
He had a way of making people laugh and never took himself too seriously. As difficult as his life was at times, he was always an optimist and looked forward to what was coming next.
Kit never had children, but he absolutely adored his many nieces and nephews and they him. He also had many aunts, uncles, and cousins who all loved him very much!
Kit was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Gerald Barrett and Mary Lou Buffington Barret,t and infant brother Lewis Kelly Barrett. He is survived by his many nephews and nieces as well as his brothers and sisters — “The K’s”: Laura Katherine “Kathy” Barrett of Tallahassee, FL; Nancy Carroll “Kay” Barrett Mull (Steve) of Ormond Beach, FL; Donald Kurt Barrett (Carol) of Ormond Beach, FL; Benjamin Kyle Barrett (Meg) of Middletown, RI; Kerith Ann “Keri” Barrett Peko (Miguel) of Chesapeake, VA; and Mary Kristen Louise “Krissy” Barrett Vail(Jason) of Charlotte, NC; stepmother Jocelyn Brabham Barrett of Asheboro, NC; and stepsister Amy Kathleen Wiley Berwick of Raleigh, NC. Kit will be missed by all who knew him!
A private Service of Remembrance took place Friday, June 17, at the Lohman Funeral Home in Daytona Beach, FL. A Celebration of Kit’s life was held after the service at the home of Kurt and Carol Barrett.
And everyone who knows us knows that we will celebrate his life in a big way! The way we Barretts do! We welcome you there in Spirit!!
In lieu of flowers, Kit would want anyone who feels like donating to his favorite cause to please do so. This is for his niece Alyssa Peko. This cause was important to Kit and our whole family.
