Corena "Bitsy" Nance Byrum

FRANKLINVILLE — Corena "Bitsy" Nance Byrum, 89, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at TerraBella Asheboro.

Funeral Services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Ramseur, with Rev. Wayne Dunn and Ron Coleman officiating.

Burial took place at Clear View Baptist Church, Franklinville.

Bitsy was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. She was retired from Union Carbide/ Eveready as a lab technician and was a member of First Baptist Church of Ramseur.

Bitsy loved to travel the United States and abroad with her husband Jim, sister Mae and wonderful friend Jackie Smith. She was very active and adventurous, as proved by her going zip lining to celebrate her 80th birthday.

Bitsy was the best cook in the world and was known by many for her Dreamsicle Cake and many other desserts.

She was always giving much of her time to the Cedar Falls Community Association, the Ramseur Food Pantry and those in her community. There are many things she did for others, but an example of her giving heart and crafting abilities was displayed as she made more than 1,000 blankets for newborns at Randolph Hospital.

Bitsy was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" Byrum, parents, Alex and Mattie Haithcock Nance; sisters, Mamie Louise Bowers, Artha Mae Nance; and brothers, Titus Alexander Nance, Gilbert Luther Nance, Alvin Henry, Sr., Alfred Mack Nance, and Ervin Jessie Nance.

She is survived by son, Rick Freeman of Cedar Falls; brothers, Hurley Benjamin Nance and wife Mary Frances of Cedar Falls, Curtis Dean Nance and wife Mary Ellen of Cedar Falls, Clinton Owens Nance of Cedar Falls; step daughter, Sherri Freeland and husband Mike of Statesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the staff at TerraBella Asheboro for their wonderful care and concern for Ms. Bitsy.

The body lay in repose from 12-5 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2022, at the Loflin Funeral Home in Ramseur. Visitation was held from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, at First Baptist Church of Ramseur.
