ASHEBORO — Cornelia Lowe Rankin, 99, of Asheboro and formerly of Ramseur, passed away quietly on. Jan. 20, 2024.
Born April 27, 1924, in Chester, VA, ‘Neil’, as she was lovingly known, graduated from Thomas Dale High School and UNC-Greensboro class of 1945 with a degree in Home Economics.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Rufus Wardell and Lucille Stein Lowe; sister, Betty Lorms; and brother, Henry A. Lowe.
Neil was the beloved wife of the late Sam A. Rankin Sr. for 48 years and proud mother of Sam A. Rankin Jr. of Asheboro and Jane Winfree Rankin of Denver. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Marjorie Moser Rankin; grandchildren, Griffin R. Lamb (David) of Raleigh, Henry Wescott Rankin (Priscilla) of Greensboro, Mary Carlisle R. Harper (Patrick) of Asheville, Leigh Anne Brown (fiancée Pete Drolet) of Stuart, FL, Taylor Neil Slaughter of Wellington, FL; and great-grandchildren, Emmy and Spencer Lamb of Raleigh, Oliver and Drew Rankin of Greensboro, Faye Harper of Asheville, and Eleanor Winfree Burnham of Wellington, all of whom she treasured.
Neil lived her life to the fullest, was a devoted wife and mother, active in her church and community, a dear friend to many, an amazing homemaker, and made the best corn pudding you may have ever eaten. She will be greatly missed.
A family burial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Sunset Knoll Cemetery, Ramseur, followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service at Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church in Ramseur, with Reverend Chris Smith officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Craven Room.
