Dennis James McArthur, age 65 of Ashland, left this earth to be with the Lord on May 24, 2024. He passed away at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham after fighting a battle with cancer.
Dennis began his career immediately out of high school following other family members, working as a truck driver with Overnight Transportation in the late ’70s. He moved quite a bit but always able to find a job largely due to his personality and ease with people. He met lifelong friends that he had maintained to this day.
In the 1990s, he moved to Clay County and worked at NSE in Lincoln and finally to AGL Solid Waste in 2017. Dennis loved his job as a roll-off driver and never met a stranger. He loved meeting people and many times customers would ask specifically for him to deliver their “Box.”
Dennis loved life! He was always kind and a gentleman. Dennis had a great sense of humor and loved telling stories about his travels. He loved old Westerns, grilling, cooking, fishing, working with his tractor, NASCAR racing, and North Carolina basketball. His greatest regret was not to be able to show his 2-year-old grandson, Phoenix, how to do so many fun things.
Dennis was a member of the First Methodist Church in Ashland, where he served as a Trustee chair and helped with the Food Bank and other ministries. He loved his church family and had a close relationship with everyone there.
