ASHEBORO — Dr. Marion Wilson Griffin, 88, was received into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Oct. 18, 2023.
He was born in Greenville, SC, to Arthur Gwynne Griffin and Chirsta Wilson Griffin on Aug. 10, 1935. He grew up in Davidson, attending school there for 12 years, graduating in 1953.
He attended UNC-Chapel Hill as a member of the first class of Morehead Scholars. At UNC, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and was also on the track and cross country teams. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1957 and after a year of post-graduate work, began medical school at UNC, graduating in 1962.
After graduation from medical school, he entered the US Air Force as a flight surgeon, returning to UNC in 1964 for his residency in general surgery. After completing his residency, Marion and his wife Beth and their three children moved to Asheboro where he practiced surgery for over 40 years.
He was also the Chief Medical Examiner for Randolph County for many years.
Dr. Griffin had given his life to Jesus Christ and was committed to bringing others to Christ. He demonstrated his faith by his words and deeds.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beth; his daughters, Elizabeth and Christa; son, Marion, Jr.; and his brothers, Art and Morris.
He is survived by his brother, Henry and his wife Barbara; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Victory Fellowship Church, 1087 McDowell Road in Asheboro, with Pastor Deborah Garner officiating.
The family will receive friends briefly following the service at the church. Burial will be held in Oaklawn Cemetery.
