EUGENE RICHARD ‘GENE’ AMICK

GIBSONVILLE — Eugene Richard "Gene" Amick, 86, of Gibsonville, passed away at home on Feb. 5, 2025.

Everyone knows that Gene is the most positive and sweetest man in the world! To know him is to simply love him. Gene enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and to honor his wishes, there will be a small non-traditional “celebration of life” to take place at Whites Memorial Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 2930 Whites Memorial Road, Franklinville, on Saturday, Feb. 22, anytime from 12-2 p.m., for family and close friends to share joy and memories together.

Gene was born and raised in Randolph County and in most recent years lived in Gibsonville. He was a wonderful husband, father, neighbor and friend to all.

He was a well-educated man and had a passion for serving and helping others in need.  His education consisted of:

— 1960: Piedmont Bible College, Bachelor of Religious Education.

— 1961: Gordon College of Theology, Bachelor of Arts.

— 1965: Southeastern Baptist Seminary, Master of Divinity.

— 1966: University of North Carolina, Master of Education, 2011, Doctor of Divinity.

Gene followed his youthful passion to become a highly talented guitarist. Also, he was an avid reader, enjoying a broad spectrum of literature throughout his lifetime.

He pastored a congregation in Fayetteville, and then raised his children in Winston-Salem, where he professionally served his clients as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. He later became head of the independent living program, serving uniquely challenged handicapped clients in the Winston-Salem region.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Warner and Eleanor Walker Amick, in addition to his dear friend, Ronnie Hughes, of Winston-Salem.

Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, Charlene H. "Spikey" Amick, of the home; daughter, Renee A. Mathis (Scott) of Sugar Mountain; a son, Richard Amick of Winston-Salem; granddaughter, Megan Mathis of Greensboro; sisters, Anita Brady (Wiley) of Ramseur, Alice Amick of Franklinville; brothers, Larry Amick of Franklinville, dear friend Hudson Burton of Louisburg; as well as several nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and his beloved "fur-buddy", Scooby.
