Frances Herring

FRANCES HERRING

ASHEBORO — Mary Frances Howell Herring, 91, passed away peacefully on Sept. 20, 2024. She is joyfully reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband of 47 years, Monroe Herring. Frances and Monroe owned and operated Monroe’s Music and Jewelry in Asheboro from 1965 until their retirement in 1992.

Frances was born in Johnston County, to John Richard Howell and Minnie Massengill Howell. She was one of 12 siblings and is survived by her sister Sarah Louise Raines of Mebane. She is also survived by her two daughters, Debbie Cobb (Monty) of Raleigh, and Jill Sullender (Joe) of Vienna, VA; five grandchildren, Marilyn Slaymaker (Amos) and Carson Cobb (Sara) of Raleigh, Ashley Gerke (Daniel) of Atlanta, Julia Sullender and Colin Sullender of Vienna; great-grandchildren, Olivia Hines of Converse, TX, Sophia Slaymaker, Lilly Grace Slaymaker, Nora Cobb and Mary Carson Cobb of Raleigh. 

The family would also like the acknowledge Tony and Kathy Hoover of Asheboro, who were very special to Frances, and Marty and Toni Allred, who were so good to her through the years.  

Frances was a member of First Assembly of God in Asheboro for many years but called Word of Faith Ministries home for the later years of her life. 

She was a bookkeeper for Sears, Monroe’s Music and Jewelry and First Assembly of God during her career. After retirement, she enjoyed serving as a volunteer at Randolph County Hospital for many years.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, with Reverend Monty Barker officiating. A committal service will be held at Princeton Cemetery in Princeton, NC, at 4 p.m. the same day. 

The family will receive friends on Friday, Oct. 4, from 6-8 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave, Asheboro. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Randolph Hospice House, 446 Vision Drive, Asheboro, 27203 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
