ASHEBORO — Iris Lee "Jo Ann" Landreth Smith, 89 of Asheboro, NC, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, surrounded by family at Clapp's Nursing Center, Pleasant Garden, NC.
Jo Ann was born Sept. 20, 1935, in Belews Creek, NC, to the late Lum "Hammock" Landreth and Sudie Jane Sapp Landreth. Jo Ann was a 1953 graduate from Colfax High School.
She married Joe Smith, a career US Marine on Nov. 17, 1957; they were married almost 50 years. Jo Ann was as dedicated to the Marine Corps as he was. They moved 17 times during his career and all the while she was committed to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of Faith Assembly of God church in Kernersville, NC.
Jo Ann will be remembered as an avid reader who loved to read and study God's Holy Word. She enjoyed years of teaching adult Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Walkertown, NC.
Jo Ann was a good listener, very compassionate, empathetic and always gave Godly counsel when asked. She often was called upon to pray for, to nurse and care for family members, neighbors and friends.
Jo Ann had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She loved her family and cherished her time with them.
In addition to her parents, Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Franklin Smith; her daughter, Pamela Smith Neal; her grandson, Joseph "Sean" Neal; a brother and a sister.
Jo Ann is survived by her brother, Scotty M. Landreth, High Point, NC; her daughter, Tina Smith Sisco (Lance), Asheboro, NC; son, Scott Franklin Smith (Tatiana), Browns Summit, NC; three grandchildren, Hunter F. Smith (Jessica) Boynton Beach, FL, Lindsay Sisco Jordan (Steven) Winston-Salem, NC, Kalyn E. Sisco, Knoxville, TN; four great-grandchildren, Iris and Isaac Jordan, Grayson and Noah Smith.
Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, from 10-10:45 a.m., immediately followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 3950 Macy Grove Rd., Kernersville, NC 27284. Reverend Beverly Isley Landreth will be officiating.
Jo Ann will be missed by all who loved and cared for her. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Clapp's Nursing home for their compassion and care.
