Linda Hames Carter, age 73, of Asheboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025, surrounded by her family, after a long lengthy illness.
A funeral service to celebrate Linda's life will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2025, at The Cross Road Baptist Church, 1566 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, North Carolina, of which she was a member, with Reverend Mark Hall, The Honorable Pat Hurley Thornburg and Janet Harlee officiating. An interment service will be conducted by Pastor Gary Mason at Oaklawn Cemetery, 737 Albemarle Road in Asheboro, North Carolina, following the church service.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the church, prior to her service.
Linda was born in Asheboro, North Carolina, on Jan. 30, 1952, to the late Carvus Hames, Jr. and the late Evelyn Robbins Hames.
She was a 1970 graduate of Asheboro High School and attended Appalachian State University. She, along with her husband David, were the previous co-owners of Garner-Morgan Hardware in Asheboro and she later worked in banking at Central Carolina Bank and was the former manager of Community One Bank's Hillside Shopping Center branch.
Linda also served as the former Executive Director of Carolina House of Asheboro. She was a former Board of Directors member and past president of Hospice of Randolph and former Board of Directors member and past president of Cross Road Rest and Retirement Village. She was proud to be a born and bred citizen of Asheboro and served as a City Council member for almost 20 years.
Her favorite place was the beaches of North and South Carolina where she acquired her never ending love of Carolina Beach Music, and met the love of her life at Sherwood Forrest Campground during the Easter weekend of 1968.
Her love for Asheboro was only second to her love for her family. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, William David Carter; her cherished daughter, Amy Carter Draughn and her husband Lee Draughn; the two lights of her life, grandchildren, Jacob Draughn and Emma Draughn; two brothers, Terry Hames and Craig Hames; two nieces; two nephews; a great nephew; a great niece; many cousins; and countless very special lifelong friends, all whom she considered to be family.
