Mont Bland Gilmore, a resident of Randolph County, was called home on Friday, April 17, 2026, just days shy of his 100th birthday. Born on April 27, 1926, Mont lived a full and industrious life.
Mont was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
After his return to the states, he was employed as a surveyor for Moore, Gardner and Associates, eventually rising to be the head of the surveying department. Mont was a member of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors and dedicated his career of over 55 years to building and shaping his community with diligence and integrity.
He was a brilliant mathematician and developed computer software for the Army Corps of Engineers for many years.
Mont also was one of the original owners and developers of Pinewood Country Club in Asheboro. He loved to play golf and was affectionately called “Hustler” by his friends.
He was also a devoted member of Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church in Ramseur, where he found fellowship and spiritual guidance.
Mont was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sarah Hendren Gilmore; his grandson, Billy Eugene Poole, Jr.; his parents, Budd and Estella Bland Gilmore; and his sisters, Toni Gilmore Marley, Peggy Gilmore Fox, Louise Gilmore Nauss, Rachel Gilmore Rosine.
He leaves behind a loving family who cherished him dearly: his daughters, Rachel Gilmore Waugh and her husband Tommy of Asheboro, Jamie Yow Poole and her husband Billy of Asheboro, Phyllis Gilmore Redding and her husband Brantley of Elizabeth City; his son, Robert Terry Yow and his wife Denise of Fort Mill, SC. Mont was also a proud grandfather of Robbie Poole (Whitney), Travis Poole (Anna), Allen Robbins (Liz), Stephanie Pfieffer (Chip), Brant Redding, Sarah Keiger (Tom), Phillip Waugh (Jennie), Chris Waugh (Angela), Charlotte Testa (Dave); great-grandchildren, Cynthia Freeman (Harvey), Haley Scott, Andrew Poole, Colton Varner, Levi Varner, Hadleigh Poole, Andie Poole, Austyn Poole, Taylor O’Malley, Blake Redding, Macie Redding, Vance Waugh, Alyssa Waugh, Lukas Keiger, Sam Keiger, Nathan Robbins, Jake Testa, Sadie Testa, Abbey Testa; great-great-grandchildren, Camlynn Freeman, Everlee Headen, John Hunt, Owen O’Malley; and numerous nieces and nephews whose lives he enriched with his wisdom and kindness. Mont’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Sunday, April 26, from 1-2:45 p.m. at Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church in Ramseur. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Chris Smith and Rev. Rob Roberts officiating. Mont will be laid to rest at Sunset Knoll Cemetery in Ramseur.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Randolph County.
