Robert (Whitey) J. Haas

Robert (Whitey) J. Haas passed away May 12, 2023, at Woodland Hill Nursing Home.

He was born Oct. 17, 1934, to Arthur Wesley and Helen Kuechler Haas in Buchanan County, Illinois.

Bob worked in insurance sales and food sales, and was a school bus driver. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, where he was known as “Stretch” for his tall, lean build.

Bob moved to Asheboro from Naperville, Illinois, in 2003 to get away from the harsh winters in Illinois, and to be near his best friend of 65 years, Jim Pittillo. He made many friends at the restaurants he frequented.

Bob was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Grace Haas Wilson; his brother, George Haas; and his son, Richard Haas.  

He is survived by his son, Scott David Haas of Arkansas; granddaughters, Nicole Haas and Cortney Haas of Illinois; and six great-grandchildren.

Per Bob’s request, no service will be held.
