ASHEBORO – Ronald Parker Holt and Brenda Marcella Jordan Holt each graduated from Asheboro High School, Ron in 1961, Brenda in 1960. After graduating high school, Ron joined the US Marine Corps and Brenda worked at Acme McCrary Hosiery Mill. They were married in September of 1965 at Neighbor’s Grove Wesleyan Church in North Asheboro. They were the parents of two children, Eric Justin and Jennifer Elizabeth.
Ron worked at Rampon Hosiery Mills for many years but retired from Moll Industries. Following retirement, he worked as a tram driver for the NC Zoo and also drove for RCATS. He enjoyed attending the YMCA with friends and was a champion competitor in the Senior Games. His passion for Native American archaeology led to his comprehensive collection of arrowheads and other artifacts, all found on his numerous hikes through local areas. His research of these items led to his extensive knowledge of their use and history. He taught himself to make arrowheads, spear points and other weapons, as well as pottery, using local Native American techniques.
Brenda was his devoted wife for 56 years. While their children were young, she worked as a cook in the Balfour School cafeteria for a time and later at home, sewing and assembling neckties for a local textile mill. She was an excellent cook and especially loved baking. Her specialties included apple pie, persimmon pudding and, the family favorite, homemade biscuits. When her children were young, Brenda taught Children’s Church and Vacation Bible School at Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church.
Later in life, she was a rural morning newspaper carrier for The Courier-Tribune for several years, then worked as manager of the ladies clothing department at Kmart until the company closed. Brenda was an avid reader of western novels, especially loving Louis L’Amour, and enjoyed listening to classic country music.
