Victor Joe Smith, 78, of Wilmington passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Nov. 2, 1946, in Asheboro, NC, to the late Victor Odell Smith and the late Frances Marianne (Pugh) Smith.
He graduated from Ramseur High School and East Carolina University. Victor joined the US Marine Corp and retired as a Major after 24 years of honorable service. He then worked for and retired from Case Corporation.
Victor enjoyed sailing and snow skiing but most of all he loved his family. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
Victor is survived by his wife of 56 years, Brenda (Phillips) Smith; his daughters, Stephanie Kinter and husband Steve, Karen Barnhill, Cortney Hamm; his sister, Becky Cooper; his sister-in-law, Jackie Smith; his granddaughter, Hannah Hamm; his nephews, Jim Smith and wife Alice, Steve Smith and wife Anderson, Greg Smith and wife Christie, Andy Smith; his nieces, Jamie Price and husband Trick, Cathy Bingham and husband Tom; and several cousins.
In addition to his parents, Victor was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jim Smith, Bill Smith; and his nephew, Brian Cooper.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Victor to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m,. on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington with a US Marine Corp Chaplain officiating and the US Marine Corp performing military funeral honors. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home until 4 p.m.
